What is Your Body Saying?

All too often we dismiss the emotional factors in accidents and illnesses, or we don’t even realise there are emotional factors to our health challenges. We tend to think that we injure ourselves by accident or that an illness within a body part of bodily system is just coincidental. But have you ever considered that the illness or complaint you suffer from might actually be a message from your body that is trying to emerge?

If you have repeatedly injured a body part then this can denote anger at what that body part represents, or for the more flexible thinkers out there, it can be ‘past life’ or 8th chakra issues that are still resonating within your bodymind now. Injuring a specific body part can also mean you are sabotaging yourself in an attempt to move beyond a personal issue. Emotional factors also play a fundamental part in the activity of viruses, parasites and bacteria in the bodymind. Bacteria thrive in an emotional environment of fear, viruses are fed by anger and fungi represent hanging on to old stuff. Here are some of the health issues I have experienced and the emotional factors involved. Maybe you can comment on what you suffer with and I can make some suggestions as to what might be going on emotionally?

I have injured my right, inner ankle bone on many occasions throughout my teens. Most recently twice when out being ’sociable’ (ahem). Well surprise, surprise for someone who has been having a personal life overhaul in the last two years, the gallbladder meridian runs through the inner ankle. The consciousness of the gallbladder is decision-making. Subconsciously (or perhaps not so subconsciously!) I am resisting stepping forward with my life by sabotaging the function of my ankle. By being present to what my body is telling me, I am able to understand better that pushing myself only creates resistance. My ankle is just telling me that there are more factors I need to consider that influence my ability to step forward than just material ones. My tendency to rush through stuff was stalled by my body showing me that I needed emotional stability as well as a change of work, relationship status and family arrangements.

I also used to suffer really badly with cold sores. When I was younger I had absolutely awful ones which never really responded to any treatments. Viruses are fed by anger and the emotional component to cold sores is when you ‘bitching’ to say something. They represent angry words and fear of expressing them. Suffice to say this resonated with me as a child and as an adult during difficult relationships. During my BodyTalk sessions I always used to wonder why the virus had never come up. However as I had various types of anger released from various body parts and bodily systems I really got a clearer understanding of what was happening. The anger that I couldn’t express was released through the cold sore attacks. Once I had begun to deal with this emotion, my bodymind didn’t need this form of release. It took a while for anger to really come up in sessions but I haven’t had a cold sore since. The virus was never directly prioritised by my body but seems to have dealt with it anyway.

What next? Backache. When my daughter was young I suffered a really awful bout of pain in my left side hip and through my left leg. (Friends may recall me having to drag myself across the floor to the front door to let someone in to help!) The emotional factors? Feeling unsupported . Refusing support (very me). Stepping through into a new way of life (motherhood) and as it was my left side that suffered there are the obvious links to femininity. When I tapped on these factors the pain went overnight.

I have lots of these stories so let me know if you find them useful, or want to hear more about my adenoids, weird knee infection, warts, period pains, pins and needles? Leave a comment or two on what’s bothering you and I’ll let you know what emotional factors may be playing out within your bodymind. This post has already generated a few questions so I’ll add to it in my next post.

This is great I have been atuned to this for many years, yet each day is another learning moment. I also have noticed that sometimes we are too close to our own messages. For example I have been having a tightness in my right heel and even with all the observance of flexibility, stepping out into new things I have not gotten the handle on what is the core truely.

I would also love to hear your opinion on when is it energy vs something in the foods we eat. For example there is hormones is so many products, meats, milks, butter etc…perfumes, lotions etc…..how do you know when that is causing the effect vs an unresolved issue?

I concur with you that emotions are the reason behind our illness or blockages. Once we tackle the emotions that arise and learn to face them head on, we will rid ourselves of pain and illness.

Thanks for your insights on individual physical issues.

Still looking for answers why people get migraine headaches. Why some are so debilitating? Are they hormonal?

Thanks for the questions.

Michele- sometimes the causes are really well hidden, usually our subconscious is trying to protect us from a difficult emotion. It could be that you have an issue with the reciprocal area of the foot which in your case is the left hand. The hands denote our ways of dealing with experiences- holding, handling, grasping, letting go. It might be worth looking for what else is going on when the tightness occurs. Feet represent our understanding of ourselves and others. What are the triggers?

In response to the energy v’s other factors question- it’s all energy one way or another. When your body is balanced it can cope with just about anything. In an EFT Nottingham session, your body tells me what it needs to be balanced to it’s environment, etc. When all aspects of the bodymind are communicating effectively your body is amazingly adaptive. So in a session I am aware of the many different factors that effect a client- but it is their own body that determines what the priority is.

Colleen- Migraine headaches can have as many causes are there are clients and each person brings their own unique history to a session. Dietary, hormonal, stress and emotional factors all have effects upon the body and mind but emotional factors can include self-criticism, resisting the flow of your life, being unable to ’stand’ in your own power, sexual anxieties and a fear of being driven by others.

I work with hormones, the organs and the bodily systems as well as the emotional responses and messages that a client is experiencing. They all need to be accounted for and listened to for effective and ongoing well-being to be maintained. In a session it is the client’s body that directs what needs to be addressed and in what order. The body ALWAYS knows the best way to deal with it’s OWN issues. A session at EFT Nottingham just allows your body to remember it’s own capacity to heal and then your body does the rest!

Last week I saw a chiropracter because of a sore right shoulder. I came out of the appointment with a sore shoulder, neck, back and pelvis. It’s still no better, worse in fact. Any ideas?

Thanks for the question- Emotionally, our shoulders represent our ability to carry out experiences in life enjoyably- we make life a burden by our attitude. Shoulders as joints, also represent changes in the direction of life and how easy you find these changes. The back is about our support in life- upper back is a lack of emotional support, feeling unloved. Neck is to do with flexibility and a refusal to see other sides of the question. Pelvis is a fear of moving forward in major decisions. Right side is masculine stuff- responsibility, rationality, reason.

Lots of potential factors but addressing one part of the body without looking at you as a whole person has resulted in a worsening state. Your poor shoulder is only trying to get your attention! If you can hear what it is saying then you have the chance to address the underlying causes.
